Our History

Keeping in mind the needs for continuing our forefather's traditions, fundamental religious values among our members and young children, a group of faithful families from Jacksonville, Gainesville and surrounding areas prayed and discussed the need for establishing Catholic Holy Mass (Qurbana) in Malayalam. The main problems in the initial stage were finding a willing and available Malayalee priest and also getting a church convenient to our members.

With His Grace the historic First Malayalam Syro-Malabar Catholic Holy Mass (Qurbana) started with a whole day retreat on Saturday March 20, 2004 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Macclenny, FL 32063. More than 11 families from Jacksonville and Gainesville attend the Retreat and Holy Qurbana, under the leadership of Fr. Jose Maniyangat assisted by Fr. George Karikkattuparambil. The Holy Eucharist had been conducting once a month on every 2nd Saturdays at Mccleanny. After the Holy Mass on April 09, 2005 we arranged a sendoff for Fr. George Karikkattuparambil CMI, who went back to Kerala, more than 60peoples attend this function. During early part of 2006 due to certain inconveniences (members travelling distances, availability of Church and Priests), members from Jacksonville and Gainesville formed separate gathering for worship.

December 2009 to April 30, 2011 Christmas, Easter and special occasions Holy Eucharist services were conducted at St. Patricks Catholic Church, Jacksonville under the leadership of Fr. Jose Kulathinal CMI. More than 35 families used attend the occasional services.

Started monthly service from July 30, 2011 to January, 2014 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Jacksonville - under the leadership of Fr. Augustine Nellary assisted by Fr. George Vaniyepurackal. About 35 families used to attend the Mass services on a regular basis. During November 2013 we registered under Florida State chapter "Not for Profit" and formed St. Mary's Indian Catholic Mission of North Florida.

George Vaniyepurackal, Fr. Augustine Athimoottil, and Fr. Jaison Punnolikunnel. About 35 families used to attend biweekly service regularly. During the pastoral visit of Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath, of St. Thomas Syro Malabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago to Jacksonville, Florida in October 2014 explained the steps for making as part of Chicago Diocese. Accordingly, all the necessary Legal formalities have been completed with the Diocese and raised in the level of a Mission. From October 04, 2015 we are so lucky and blessed to conduct Holy Qurbana every Sunday morning at 8.30 am at St. Ephrem Syriac Catholic Church, 4650 Kernan Blvd.S, Jacksonville, Florida. Since Fr.
