St. Mary’s Syro Malabar Catholic MissionJacksonville, Florida
The path towards the establishment of an oriental Catholic community for the people of Indian origin in North East Florida, particularly began with the initiatives taken by several of our pioneers. Initially the Malayalee catholic community had occasional masses and gatherings on special occasions like Christmas and Easter. There were several Malayalee priests over here serving the local catholic churches who were generous to offer their service and facilities. Some of the names we would like to mentioned with gratitude are Fr. Jose Kulathinal CMI, Fr. Jose Maniyangat and several others.
In the year 2012 under the leadership of Fr. Augustine NellaryMalayalee catholic community was registered as a Mission under St. Thomas Syro Malabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago. There after we had church services and mass on every Sunday and Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) for children. We are also thankful to Fr. Augustine Jacob for leading the mission for sometime and Fr. Jaison Punnolikunnel is currently our pastor (vicar), we have around 40 active families and over 60 children in our faith formation classes.
